The Belgian Residence in Washington, D.C. was built in 1931
and was purchased by the Belgian Government in l945.
This is the only known house to stand on this parcel of
Foxhall Road. Hundreds of years ago the Algonquin Indians of
the Powhatan Confederacy used to fish the Potomac from these
lands. During the Civil War this plot was part of a ring of
forts built on the Potomac. Known as “Battery Parrott”, it
had two guns and was listed as one of the Civil War defenses
of Washington, DC. Civil War buffs have identified the berm,
just below the mansion’s back terrace, as the artillery
emplacement.
